TrueJoy for Sam’s Fans

Hey there Sam’s Fans!

How is everyone on this Friday?  So have you guys heard how awesome ukuleles are?  Well, they are! Easy to play, easy to learn, easy to hold and sounds sooo cool!

Well… through our work at Sam’s Fans and our friends at CCHMC (Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center) we met Greg Huntington.  Greg is a retiree and a very generous  person who wanted to do something to give back.  Greg raises money to donate ukuleles to the kids at CCHMC and Seattle Children’s.  Not only do the kids get to learn and play but they get to keep the ukuleles in their rooms after their sessions!   I remember the hardest thing when a session was over was to close it up and watch it walk out the door so this really spoke to me:)  I loved the idea and wanted to get on board with that, right!  Greg was nice enough to set up the donation to go to Nationwide Children’s and a couple weeks ago we were able to deliver five ukuleles to our friends at Nationwide Children’s Hospital!    I met two of the music therapists and an intern.  We unpacked the boxes together and as soon as the therapists had the instruments in hand they were tuning and playing and there was even a couple people who stopped by to listen for a second or two!

These particular ukuleles are very well made, and are so easy to handle and when I saw the faces of the music therapists I knew they were good!  There is even one that is like a banjo that they really thought was cool.  About a week later I got this from my contact at the hospital:

” We are thrilled to be able to provide our patients the chance to play ukulele during music therapy sessions! Not only do the ukuleles provide a pleasant and soothing sound in an otherwise bare environment; but they also promote self-confidence and self-expression when a child masters playing their favorite song. To be able to learn a new skill and voice your creativity, while facing medical challenges is a huge gift. It can really change one’s perspective and enhance how a child copes with being in the hospital. Thank you to Sam’s Fans for providing us with this opportunity.”

I love you all!  Have a nice weekend:)
